How to install Google analytics on a WordPress blog? Do you edit the template or do you have some nifty plugin to suggest?

No plugin for me. I prefer open the editor and put the Analytics Tag on the foot.php file, easier way possible, in my opinion of course.

IMHO using a plugin gives you a more granular control over the tracking of logged user, in controlling admin exclusions from report without a filter, excluding some section, etc... – Marco Cilia Nov 16 at 16:22

At the beginning I was used to customize the template.

Then I found the excellent Google Analytics for WordPress Joost's plugin and since then I have been using this plugin. It's powerful, high customizable and also adds some convenient tracking features.

I vote also for Joost's plugin, it is very complete, reliable, updated and easy to use, but has some advanced configuration too! – Marco Cilia Nov 16 at 16:20

If you are talking about wordpress.com, you can't install analytics. If you want it anyway, maybe you could buy the CSS upgrade and install it through CSS.

I've created an implementation of Analytics through CSS cause many time ago Rinzi had your same problem. But we never tested this script in wordpress.com.
