Yesterday I made a change to the DNS settings for one of my domains. How long does it take before search engines start crawling the site published on the new server?
Can the DNS changes affect the web site ranking on search engines?

Search engine spiders start crawling the site published on the new web server just ended the DNS propagation (this process can take up to 48 hours). There isn't reason because the migration at a new server may change your site ranking. Here's an usefull tool for the DNS propagation monitoring. |

If both your websites are online (the old and the new) there isn't no impact, because everyone find one site alive. Before change the DNS record it's recommended to reduce the TTL (Time To Live), for example: 1) TTL = 172800 (seconds, = 2 days) 2) change the TTL to 14400 (the lowest value, = 4 hours) 3) wait 2 days (the value you see at the point 1) 4) change the DNS record (IP) and restore TTL to the original value In this case the DNS propagation take up only 4 hours (but some DNS servers don't obey to the TTL). |
