I just optimized an Wordpress site about jewels and the first results on search engines are good.

I use the All in One SEO Pack features to customize the tag Title and META tags of the article pages, while the optimization of the Title tags of the category pages is dinamic using the category name value.

I want to improve the optimization of the category pages because these contains interesting opportunities for the ranking.

How to optimize manually the Title tags and META tags of the Wordpress category pages?

Categories doesn't support custom fields. In order to manually optimize each categorie you need some odd workaround (such as creating one template file for each category) and creating a custom title/meta tags requires a lot of effort.

I don't think category pages deserve this effort. You can simply generate a different title for each category page customizing your template. I wouldn't noindex or nofollow them because, in some ways, they can acts as sitemaps. However, don't waste your time trying to customize each category page.

Not sure if a plugin exists for that, but it probably does. However, I solved 99% of WordPress optimization issues by purchasing Thesis (not an affiliate link!). I heartily recommend it.

Having custom title and meta tags on category pages is completely irrelevant to me, because I NOINDEX those pages.
